Friends of the Mount Rainier Library



To build a partnership between the library and the community to improve the variety and quality of services for the library's service area, which includes the Gateway towns Mount Rainier, Brentwood, North Brentwood and other neighboring communities.


  • to maintain an association of persons interested in the library
  • to focus public attention in a positive manner on library services, facilities, and needs
  • to help promote use and enjoyment of the library
  • to develop funding for a new library facility
  • to develop funding for ongoing programs at the library
  • to help support tourism and economic revitalization
  • to support and complement programs of the local schools
  • to actively support and supplement the programs of the Prince George's County Memorial Library System in the local community


Residents or business members of the community who value the service of the library join FOL to volunteer their time and talent, to promote the use of the library, to assist the library staff and to augment and enhance library service.


  • Recruit members from the community on a continual basis, seeking representation that reflects the community's diversity.
  • Sponsor library programs provided for children, youth, and adults.
  • Plan and implement fund-raising activities, including book sales.
  • Provide funds to purchase materials and equipment.
  • Acknowledge and support the library plans, progress, decisions, and future needs.
  • Develop and provide social and educational activities as requested by members.
  • Encourage the unrestricted donation of gifts, endowments, and bequests to the library.
